Fox Reporter Shot at by Israeli Soldiers

i know it's wrong for me to laugh at someone getting shot at.but i lol'ed.

highlights:

Anchorman 1: Clearly they're shooting at the press, too. he's wearing a flak jacket that says "PRESS" right on it.
Anchorman 2: yea, but if you're somebody and youre a long ways away and you see something and you dont know what it is, sometimes you just start shooting
Anchorman 1: Really?

Anchor 1: I still don't understand. [re: the flak jackets worn by members of the press] It says 'Press', that's the color, it's international!
Anchor 2: Bad guys shoot at anything.
Anchor 1: Right, but it's Israel...

Esquire Article on John Walker Lindh

article

i'm hesitant to post this article, partially because of the content, but mainly because of the length. i know there's only one or two people who would actually sit down and read the pseudo book, but i'm telling you all -- it's worth it. beautifully written and definitely makes you think about the questions "how far is too far? and what's not enough?" in relation to how we incorporate religion into our lives.

if you're muslim, it'll probably make you feel like a crappy one (in case you don't already).we somehow always manage to make a million excuses for why we choose to do something against islam or not do something that would better ourselves but, in the end, who are those excuses for? we see our ideal life, our goals, our hopes, our dreams, etc etc... but what shapes each of those aspects? and what should?

the post is long enough. now go read the article :)

Desi Rehabilitation (Goodness Gracious Me)

from what i gather, "Goodness Gracious Me" is a british show geared towards the pakistani/indian/bengali (read: "desi") community in europe. though some of the clips are usually smirk worthy, i found this one fairly amusing... though you might not, if you're not brown.

Peace, Propaganda & The Promised Land

lengthy (~80 mins) but so so worth it. add it on to my rant about the relationship between politics and media. and if you don't watch it due to its length, i'll probably start ranting about how our media gears us to have short attention spans and the effects of this campaign on our humanity.

really. the media sucks.

Peace, Propaganda & the Promised Land provides a striking comparison of U.S. and international media coverage of the crisis in the Middle East, zeroing in on how structural distortions in U.S. coverage have reinforced false perceptions of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This pivotal documentary exposes how the foreign policy interests of American political elites--oil, and a need to have a secure military base in the region, among others--work in combination with Israeli public relations strategies to exercise a powerful influence over how news from the region is reported.
Through the voices of scholars, media critics, peace activists, religious figures, and Middle East experts, Peace, Propaganda & the Promised Land carefully analyzes and explains how--through the use of language, framing and context--the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza remains hidden in the news media, and Israeli colonization of the occupied terrorities appears to be a defensive move rather than an offensive one. The documentary also explores the ways that U.S. journalists, for reasons ranging from intimidation to a lack of thorough investigation, have become complicit in carrying out Israel's PR campaign. At its core, the documentary raises questions about the ethics and role of journalism, and the relationship between media and politics.
